The Facility:
Two separate barns and four outside stalls are available. Clean and
spacious 12x16 box stalls await your horse. Each box stall
is equipped with automatic heated waterers, individual infrared heaters,
rubber mats and heavy bedding. Our stalls are light and airy, with dutch
doors to the barn isle and to the outside.

Indoor, hot water wash stalls in every barn allow for perfect grooming
at any time. We provide special care for the unique requirements of
horses with extremely long manes and heavy feathers.
The facility offers six different pastures, each 3-10 acres in size.
All pastures are fenced with 5 foot high, 4-railed vinyl fence to guarantee
the safety of your horse.

In order to ensure the utmost in care and stress reduction, the horses
of Windermere Farms are closely monitored throughout the entire import
procedure. Horses which arrive at Windermere Farms for their Contagious
Equine Metritis (CEM) Quarantine have been tested prior to departure
from their respective countries. They are re-tested at the port of entry
(usually Los Angeles) for Equine Infectious Anemia, and Equine Piroplasmosis,
and are transported to our CEM-quarantine facility. Under caring guardianship,
and in Windermere Farms own tailored transportation rig, they travel
under USDA seal in a roomy, clean and comfortable box stall, monitored
closely on their direct trip to Windermere Farms.
Quarantine
Procedure
Stallion testing:
To complete testing of each stallion, two test-mares are cultured prior
to the arrival of the stallion. A CEM-swab is taken from the stallion
after his arrival. The stallion will be mated to each one of the test
mares. The mares are then cultured 3 separate times over a period of
9 days to establish that no CEM bacteria have been transmitted from
the stallion to the mares. A final fixation test follows on day 15,
post breeding. The stallion is thoroughly cleaned and treated with an
antibacterial agent, effective against CEM bacteria, on 5 consecutive
days after breeding. All swabs must be submitted to the Federal, USDA
approved, Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Iowa. Once all test
results have returned with satisfactory results, the official USDA quarantine
release is given by local USDA authorities. Duration: approximately
30 days.
Mare testing:
Mares are cultured after their arrival at Windermere Farms upon 3 different
occasions within a 7 day period. Swabs are submitted to the Federal,
USDA approved, Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Iowa. Upon the
return of satisfactory lab results, the official USDA quarantine release
is given by local USDA authorities. Duration: approximately 15 days.
